The second-largest airport in the San Francisco Bay Area, Mineta San Jose International Airport is filled with modern, high-tech amenities befitting its location in Silicon Valley. Both of its two terminals, Terminal A and Terminal B, serve both domestic and international flights, although all incoming international arrivals come to Terminal A. This guide is for Terminal A.

Where Can I Eat and Drink at SJC Terminal A?

San Jose Airport Terminal A travelers have five dining and beverage options. Beer Union San Jose across from Gate 7 is the terminal’s best sit-down option, with local craft brews, appetizers, and full-service dining in a beer garden environment. For sit-down or to-go service, head to Tres Gringos near Gate 12 for Mexican food including breakfast burritos or American classics like burgers or salads. If you want a magazine or book to go with your sandwich and pastry, Euro Cafe near baggage claim is your best bet. For a quick caffeine jolt, Starbucks is located near Gate 13.

TRY THIS! For a sandwich you’ll still think about later, try the Carolina Cubano at Beer Union San Jose. Slow-roasted pork joins Carolina-inspired mustard BBQ sauce, aged cheese, and butter pickles.

What Can I Buy at SJC Terminal A?

Whether you need a new beach read or forgot your sunglasses, San Jose Airport Terminal A’s shops will have what you need. For travel gadgets, visit Brookstone near Gate 11. To pick up the latest bestseller, visit the beloved Author’s Bookstore near Gate 10. There are four newsstands spread throughout the terminal, including the CNN Newsstand near Gate 13. For souvenirs and gifts, visit the Discover San Jose shop near Gate 11. There’s a duty-free store between Gates 14 and 15, and a Sunglass Icon near Gate 10.


Where Can I Relax at SJC Terminal A?

The Club SJC has two locations in Terminal A. One is near Gate 8 on the concourse level and near Gate 15 on the third level. If one is full, guests are invited to try the other, which is approximately a five-minute walk away. The lounges are $45 per person, with a $5 discount for AAA members. Guests at either club will enjoy complimentary food and beverages, workstations, showers, charging stations, newspapers and magazines, and television displays.

Otherwise, keep an eye out for high-tech massage chairs located throughout the terminal, where you can unwind for a small fee.


What Else Can I Do at SJC Terminal A?

You’ll find lots of things to do at SJC Terminal A. The San Jose Public Library invites you to visit the Gate 12 area, where you’ll be able to download up to four ebooks for free to enjoy for the next 21 days. If you love music, visit the piano in the Terminal A meet-and-greet area, where you or others are welcome to perform. Need to get some work done before your flight? Power Rooms are quiet areas equipped with comfortable workstations. You’ll find them near Gates 7A and 9.


Departing from SJC Terminal A

Terminal A at San Jose International Airport holds Gates 1 through 16. The security checkpoint and boarding areas are on the second floor of the airport. To reach Gates 12 through 16, turn left after the security checkpoint. For Gates 1 to 11, turn right.

It’s best to arrive two hours in advance of your San Jose International Airport Terminal A domestic flight, or three hours in advance of an international flight.


Arriving at SJC Terminal A

If you arrive at San Jose International Airport on an international flight, you’ll be sent through the International Arrivals area, which is near Gates 15 and 16. You’ll fill out a customs form and speak to a customs officer. Passengers on domestic flights won’t have to go through customs. Go to the baggage claim area and check the screens to learn which carousel your luggage will arrive at.
